Alur Dom Recipe - Courtesy Purple DinosaurIngredients for Alur Dom or Spicy Potatoes Bengali Style

  • Potato--6medium sized
  • Onion-- 2medium sized
  • Ginger-Garlic Paste--1tbsp
  • Tomato--1
  • Peas--a handful
  • khara jira--1/2tsp
  • Bay leaf-1
  • Dry red chilli--2
  • Mustard oil--4tbsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Sugar just a little.
  • Turmeric Powder--1tsp
  • Red Chilli Powder--1tsp
  • Cumin POwder--1tsp
  • Coriander Powder--1/2tsp
  • Garam Masala Powder--1tbsp

How to prepare Alur Dom or Spicy Potatoes Bengali Style

  • Boil the potatoes,peel and cut into dices.
  • Put a pan on the stove,add mustard oil,the khada jira,the bay leaf n the dry red chillies.Fry till the potatoes are a little brown.
  • Now take the potatoes out,and keep them aside,add the chopped onions and the ginger-garlic paste,fry well,add the sugar,salt,turmeric,chilli,cumin and corriander powder.
  • Now add the tomato,mix well,then add the peas n the fried potatoes.
  • And stir well,till the gravy mixes well with the potato.
  • Now put the gas off,sprinkle the garam masala n cover it with a lid .
  • Serve with,chappati,puri or paratha.
